Mapping Strategies, Policies and Policy needs
The objectives of WP 3 are:
i) to improve the understanding of forest-related policy framework by identifying and characterizing EU Directives and international policies, directives and conventions affecting sustainable forest management and multifunctional forestry;
ii) to identify emerging knowledge and information needs by policy-makers in the rapidly evolving environmental, social and economic context;
iii) based on (i)-(ii), identify knowledge gaps that need to be addressed by scientific community. These will be used as inputs for developing strategic plan of WP4.
This WP, after analyzing existing forest policy documents at EU and international level, and establishing open communication with European and national policy makers, will identify emerging knowledge gaps that require description and operationalization under WP 4 (Strategic activities). The outputs of this WP will be:
– the characterization of EU forest related policy framework
– a science-policy foresight workshop to identify emerging information needs of policy makers
– final document describing forest-policy and policy makers knowledge gaps based on the previous two outputs
WP3 is carried out by European Forest Institute (coordinator), Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz (Germany), Ministrstvo za izobrazevanje, znanost in sport (Slovenia), and Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (Germany).
